Something in Sophie’s demeanour had shifted. It was perhaps a lot to read in to the tone of the brief text messages she sent him, but as more and more days passed, Aubin became more and more convinced he wasn’t imagining it. She was more open, less reserved. She teased him gently and generally seemed more affectionate.

With them communicating so much over text messages, they weren’t sending video. While Aubin missed seeing Sophie’s face, hearing her voice, he had to admit, it would have been a challenge to find anything new to show her, confined to the Star Hopper as he was. A tour of his living space would have been over in moments, even if he made his best efforts to drag it out, and what else was there he could have filmed? Nothing.

It wasn’t until Bethnol Seven loomed ahead of him that he had something worth showing her. He took a short video from the pilot’s seat, then sent it to her.
